Seattle, May 24, 2010 – Seattle-based Holland America Line recently donated three Yamaha grand pianos from its ms Statendam and ms Maasdam cruise ships to three local South Florida schools –– Fort Lauderdale High School, Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach and the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

These high quality pianos were used in entertainment venues on board the ships and were offloaded and delivered to the schools’ music departments to be used as practice and performance pianos by students.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to donate reusable goods from our ships when they are no longer needed on board,” said Stein Kruse, president and CEO of Holland America Line. “We have the ability to give back to the communities that we touch, and these pianos are a small token of our thanks to the South Florida community.”

As part of its ongoing corporate giving program, Holland America Line regularly donates reusable goods from their ships. Past donations have included linens, toiletries, cookware and television sets.
