MARATHON, Florida Keys — Sports fans, spectators and swine lovers are gearing up for the third annual National Pig Days celebration, set for Friday through Sunday, Feb. 25-27.

In recognition of National Pig Day, celebrated on March 1 to give thanks for the clever and highly intelligent domesticated pig, the Stuffed Pig Restaurant at mile marker 49 is to host Rosaire’s Royal Racers with live pig racing for hordes of squealing fans. Even a pig mascot is to be on hand.

Races are set for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday evening, and throughout Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Other weekend highlights include live music and dancing, raffles, activities for kids and a silent auction. Special lunch and dinner menus are to feature burgers, hot dogs, seafood and even barbecue pork.

Admission is free.

Proceeds from the lively weekend of races are to benefit the Grace Jones Day Care Center of Marathon. The 2010 event earned more than $23,000.
