KEY LARGO, Florida Keys — Combining fresh seafood, live local entertainment, cooking demonstrations, casting classes and costume contests, the second annual Key Largo Stone Crab & Seafood Festival is set for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 29-30, at Rowell’s Marina, mile marker 104.5 bayside.
The festival, sponsored by the Key Largo Fisheries and Key Largo Merchants Association, is to be a delicious weekend of family fun, food and fish from local waters. Arts and crafts, vendor booths, a Junkanoo band, fireworks and a car show also are planned.
Other highlights include a magic show, little mermaid contest, fishing tent to host a kids’ fishing “tournament,” how-to demonstrations and a casting contest. “Black Caesar” and his pirate crew are planning an invasion set against a weekend-long backdrop of live music.
Cooking tents are to feature demonstrations on making (and eating) favorite Keys dishes such as conch egg rolls, crab cakes, lobster and conch seviche, grilled oysters and coconut mahi-mahi. Also scheduled are shrimp-eating and Key lime pie–eating contests.
Seafood booths are to serve delectable stone crab claws, homemade fish dip, conch fritters, chowders, fish tacos and more. Landlubbers can select chicken or beef at burger booths.
Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 per adult and free for children age 12 and under.
Partial proceeds from the event benefit Florida Keys Youth Sports.
