BIG PINE KEY, Florida Keys — Contemporary and traditional offerings and original tunes by Florida Keys performing songwriters are to highlight the musical menu during the Island Grass Music Fest, set for 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, on Big Pine Key.

The musical afternoon benefits Habitat for Humanity of Key West and the Lower Florida Keys. The event is to take place on the grounds of Habitat for Humanity’s Big Pine Key headquarters, mile marker 30.5 on U.S. Highway 1.

The entertainment lineup features a host of the seasoned performers whose talents enrich the Florida Keys music scene — among them Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24, the Doerfel Family, the Piper Road Spring Band, Bobby D and the No Slack Living Room Band, C.W. Colt and Brian Roberts.

Other highlights include a conch chowder cook-off with both professional and amateur categories. Each participant is to prepare five gallons of chowder, with “tastes” available for purchase by the cup. Winners earn culinary kudos for preparing the best versions of the savory Keys favorite.

Festival attendees also can purchase food and beverages to enjoy with the music and bid on items at a silent auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Proceeds support Habitat’s mission of providing a helping hand to Florida Keys working families in need.
